What Are Zweiteilige Konnektoren?
Two-part conjunctions link two parts of a sentence, showing choices, opposites, or added ideas with a first part and a second part.
- Structure: Entweder ich esse Pizza, oder ich esse Pasta. (Either I eat pizza, or I eat pasta.)
Structure and Formation
Rules
First part + sentence 1, second part + sentence 2. Verb follows each part, usually with a comma.

Uses of Two-Part Conjunctions
Choices (Entweder … oder)
- Entweder ich gehe in den Park, oder ich bleibe zu Hause. (Either I go to the park, or I stay home.)
Negation (Weder … noch)
- Weder ich habe Zeit, noch sie will helfen. (Neither I have time, nor she wants to help.)
Addition (Sowohl … als auch)
- Sowohl wir spielen, als auch die Kinder lachen. (Both we play, and the kids laugh.)

Tips to Master Two-Part Conjunctions
- Meaning First: Pick the pair that matches the idea (choice, negation, addition).
- Verb Position: Keep the verb right after each part (Entweder ich gehe, oder ich bleibe).
- Comma Use: Add a comma before the second part in most cases.
